Dear Kent Residents

Doorstep criminals have been active this week in Dover intimidating residents and pressuring them into paying for unnecessary or poor‑quality gutter cleaning services.

Please be alert and warn your vulnerable friends and family to never respond to cold callers as you will pay a high cost for unnecessary and poor-quality work.

If you need work done on your home or garden use a safe, local trader from Trading Standards Checked.

Report cold callers anonymously to the charity CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111 or online here.

For further advice call Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 0808 223 1133.

For scam alerts as they are issued please add us on Instagram or Facebook.

Thank you.

⚠️ Residents are being targeted by investment scams.

Scammers have been targeting individuals through messaging apps, with payments appearing under multiple different names on one resident’s bank statements. The resident tried to withdraw their payments only to receive delays and demands for further investment. The scammer then stopped responding.

How to protect yourself:
❌Be wary of online contacts offering investment opportunities.
❌Never make payments via links sent directly by someone you don’t know and trust.
❌Genuine investment platforms will not ask for repeated payments to release your own funds.

⚠️ Criminals have been calling residents in Edenbridge this week impersonating police officers.

📞 Residents are being called and told:
– Their bank account has been compromised
– Their card needs replacing
– A family member has been arrested
– They must buy gold
– A courier will collect their card, cash, or gold.

🚨 These are scams. The police will never ask for your financial details over the phone or send someone to collect your card, cash, or valuables.

Buying from online marketplaces can be a convenient way to find what you need.

And with a few simple checks, it can be safer, too:
✅ Check the seller: their name, location, and how long they’ve been selling
✅ Read reviews: look for detailed comments, not just star ratings
✅ Check product details: look for instructions, warnings, and what it’s
made from
✅ Look for trusted safety marks: like UKCA or CE
✅ Check for recalls

You don’t need to be an expert to shop safely online. You just need to know what to look for.
